The National Joint Action Committee (NJAC) is currently screening candidates for five seats the party hopes to contest under the People's Partnership (PP) banner in the upcoming general election. So said NJAC's political leader, Kwasi Mutema, in an interview with the T&T Guardian. The party is screening candidates for Point Fortin, Port-of-Spain South, Port-of-Spain North/St Ann's West, Laventille East/Morvant and Laventille West. All five seats are traditional People's National Movement (PNM) strongholds.
The Tobago Organisation of the People, (TOP), is also screening candidates for the election.Mutema said despite not winning any seats in the 2010 general election, the NJAC is confident going forward in 2015.
"We are currently screening candidates for five seats. We believe the performance of the Partnership and the delivery of 90 per cent of the promises has signalled the start of a new political culture in T&T, one that resonates positively with the electorate," said Mutema. He declined to give the names of any of the potential candidates, saying all would be known in time.
"All I will say is that I am one of the candidates but I will not give any other names right now. We will be finished with screening by the end of this week."
