Accused child abuser granted $150,000 bail

The man, who be­came a so­cial me­dia pari­ah, af­ter footage of him al­leged­ly strik­ing a tod­dler and force feed­ing her a bot­tle of ba­by milk be­came a vi­ral video, has been grant­ed bail of $150,000 by a Tu­na­puna mag­is­trate.

Dex­ter Gob­in was grant­ed $150,000 bail af­ter he ap­peared be­fore mag­is­trate Gillian David-Scot­land charged with abus­ing a child on Oc­to­ber 17 and 20.

His wife Yanique Tay­lor-Gob­in, a Ja­maican na­tion­al, was de­nied bail since she has over­stayed her time in the coun­try and a de­ten­tion or­der was tak­en out against her. They were ar­rest­ed in San Fer­nan­do last week.

The cou­ple is ac­cused of al­leged­ly beat­en a child at their Raf­fer­ty Street, St Joseph, Mara­cas home ear­li­er this month. The cou­ple will reap­pear on No­vem­ber 16.

As part of his bail con­di­tions, Gob­in was or­dered to re­port to the St Joseph Po­lice Sta­tion on Mon­days, Wednes­days and Sat­ur­days and to re­main 100 me­tres from the child.

Short­ly af­ter the mat­ter end­ed Gob­in, a di­a­bet­ic, was tak­en by po­lice to the Ma­coya Health Fa­cil­i­ty for med­ical treat­ment for his ill­ness.
