A woman was found murdered in a car in Cunupia yesterday evening. She has been identified as Anessa Murray, of Cascade Gardens, Cascade.Details were still sketchy, however, and police officers were still at the scene up to press time.
Police said shortly after 6 pm, they received reports that a silver grey Bluebird Slyphy was seen in a ditch off a dirt road at Penn Trace, Cunupia. There were three bullet holes to the front windscreen of the car.
Officers responded and discovered Murray's body slumped over to the driver's seat with one hand partially placed inside a handbag. The woman was clad in a bright pink long-sleeved top and sported a braided hairstyle with colours black and blue. Police said she was shot in the upper part of her body.
An eyewitness told the T&T Guardian last night the car Murray was in was blocked by two vehicles – a Tucson and a Subaru – and occupants from one of the vehicles opened fire on hers. Murray was shot about three times in her upper body.
Murray's sister, who was on the scene and who was inconsolable, said she did not know why anyone would have wanted Murray dead. She described her sister as a very kind person who was always joyful.
Police are yet to establish a motive for her killing. The murder toll as of last evening was 49.The woman is the second resident of Cascade to be killed.
On Monday night, Anthony Henry, 35, was killed in front of his two children, aged seven and four. His wife, Anika Kwanza, 29, was beaten with a brick and chopped by her husband's killers and is still hospitalised.
The incident occurred at their home at Casablanca Road, Mt Hololo, Cascade. Investigations are continuing.
