A post mortem conducted on Friday on the body of a man found wrapped in polyethylene plastic in Piparo on July 14, revealed that he was murdered.
The autopsy was conducted by Dr Valery Alexandrov at the Forensic Sciences Centre on Friday confirmed death was due to blunt force trauma.
There is suspicion that the body, which is still unidentified, might be that of missing prison officer Rishi Sankar.
DNA samples will be taken from Sankar's relatives to ascertain if the badly decomposed body, is his.
On July 14, three men hunting along Stone Road, Piparo, stumbled upon the body which was found about a quarter of a mile from Sankar's home. The body was wrapped in plastic and tied with a piece of rope.
Sankar, 34, who was attached to the Golden Grove prison, was reported missing after he failed to report to duty on June 17. A missing person's report said he was last seen on June 22.
On June 30, police intercepted Sankar's car and detained two men who were later released. The men told the police they found the car with the keys in the ignition and went for a drive. The licence plate of Sankar's car was altered.
Police followed several leads, which included searching of the Mitan River based on information that Sankar was murdered and his body dumped there.
They said they also received credible information that Sankar was robbed, beaten and killed before the thieves made off with his vehicle.
Investigators said they will check dental records and also do DNA testing to verify whether the body belongs to Sankar.
