WASA cites power problem for water woes in Cascade

Electrical problems are being blamed for the low water pressure and unreliable water supply to residents of Upper Cascade Road.

This according to officials of the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA), one day after the residents concerns were highlighted in a T&T Guardian report.

It highlighted complaints from residents in Upper Cascade of an unreliable truck-borne supply and low water pressure which some of them have been experiencing since February.

Many of them said they had to buy bottled water to drink and cook and went by relatives to wash clothes and bathe.

Responding yesterday, WASA's corporate communications manager, Daniel Plenty, said: "Upper Cascade is at the extremity of the distribution system served by the Caroni Water Treatment Plant.

"From time-to-time, issues in the operation of this system affect the supply to those customers. Recently, there were minor disruptions at the El Socorro Booster Station, while the Foncette Booster Station which is necessary to supply the area, was affected by a T&TEC-related problem for a few days."

T&TEC rectified the issue on Wednesday which enabled WASA to initiate operations in the area, he added.

"The Upper Cascade area is scheduled to receive a supply on Mondays and Fridays. In the event of an interruption in the normal pipe-borne water supply, a truck-borne delivery is used to supplement the supply to affected customers," Plenty said.

He said WASA was committed to regularising and improving the supply to customers nationwide.

Plenty encouraged residents experiencing problems to contact the authority and report it so their concerns could be addressed in a timely and efficient manner.
