Major gun, ammo haul at Claxton Bay: Police hunt suspect

Po­lice are hunt­ing for man who man­aged to es­cape dur­ing what has been de­scribed as the largest seizure of il­le­gal firearms by the South West­ern Di­vi­sion po­lice on Sat­ur­day.

Po­lice said they went to the man's premis­es, lo­cat­ed at South­ern Main Road, Clax­ton Bay, around 10 am. Dur­ing a search they found two shot­guns, five AK-47s as­sault ri­fles, one ri­fle, one .9mm pis­tol, 18 firearm mag­a­zines, one scope and in ex­cess of 1,000 rounds of as­sort­ed am­mu­ni­tion.

The gun find brings to 74 the num­ber of il­le­gal firearms seized by South West­ern Di­vi­sion, sur­pass­ing by 20 the amount dis­cov­ered for the com­par­a­tive pe­ri­od in 2015, a re­lease stat­ed.

The ex­er­cise was spear­head­ed by Act­ing Snr Supt In­raj Bal­ram and in­clud­ed In­sp Bri­an Ram­phal, Sgt Ter­rence Vic­tor, Sgt Shahid Ali and of­fi­cers of the South West­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force, CID.
