Derrick "Roti" McIntosh's 10-month run from the law came to a fatal end in Moruga yesterday, when he was shot dead by police.
McIntosh, 28, of Upper Hillside, San Fernando, also known as "Monster," was wanted for the murders of cousins Michael and Alfredo Patterson and the shooting of Michael's brother Curtis back in January.
He was also wanted in connection with several shootings and robberies in San Fernando and Princes Town. Police said an elderly woman was picked up by a taxi last Tuesday and was taken to the M1 Tasker Road, Princes Town, and robbed and the suspect matched the description of McIntosh.
According to a report, Supt Nazrudeen Pragg spearheaded an operation which included the Princes Town CID and St Mary's, Moruga and Barrackpore officers, with assistance from the Southern Division Task Force and army, after learning of McIntosh's location.
Around 3.45 am, the team, led by Sgt Roland Ramlogan, Cpl Fraser, PC Woods, PC Ali and PC Isaac, went to a house at White Trace, St Mary's. When no one answered their calls, the officers entered and were immediately shot at.
They observed bullet holes on the walls of a corridor and the bedroom door and after breaking into a room, they said they saw McIntosh pointing a gun at them. One of the officers became fearful and shot McIntosh twice in his chest. A 9mm pistol loaded with seven rounds of ammunition was recovered. McIntosh was taken to the Princes Town District Health Facility where he was pronounced dead. No one else was in the house at the time and police will have to look for the owner of the house.
Officers said Mc Intosh, who served previous jail terms, vowed that he would not return to jail. A gold-coloured Nissan Almera was also impounded from outside the house, which matched the description of the car used in several recent robberies in Princes Town. Police are asking victims of shootings and robberies to contact them if McIntosh's photograph resembles their attacker.
Based on their investigations, they said it was likely that McIntosh had helped in the robberies and was hiding out in St Mary's and Tarouba. (KF)
