Customs officers swooped down on Ariapita Avenue on Friday night resulting in the closure of the popular D Nu Pub (The Mas Camp) after the owners could not produce their liquor licence.
Because Roderick Ward the owner of D Nu Pub could not produce his liquor licence, Customs officials carted away thousands of dollars worth in alcohol from the establishment.
Ward yesterday spoke to the Sunday Guardian about the situation.
"I could not produce the licence that we have. They (the customs officers) came and asked me for my books and I showed it to them but I could not find my licence, so I have to spend today and tomorrow looking for it," Ward said.
"I could not have alcohol on the premises if I did not have a licence so they removed all the alcohol," he said.
Ward said he could not give an exact value of the amount of alcohol that was removed.
The incident occurred around 1 am yesterday.
"They gave me a list of all the alcohol that was taken and we checked the list. They visited a lot of places on the avenue so this was not anything out of the ordinary they have not done it for a while but they usually check your books every so often and sometimes they come in the day and sometimes they come in the night," Ward said.
Ward said he will have to visit the Customs and Excise next week.
"I have to go in to them and produce my licence. They are going to call me either Monday or Tuesday," he said,
Ward said D Nu Pub will remain open this weekend but he will not be able to sell any alcohol.
"The place is opened, not closed, but I can't sell any liquor and that will make it a bit difficult," he said.
