The night air was cool but the calypsonians gave hot performances at the Kalypso Revue tent's 2017 season opening on Friday at the Arima Velodrome.
Over 25 calypsonians delivered their renditions and witty ditties that night to a rapt and appreciative audience.
Reigning Calypso Monarch Devon Seale was a crowd favourite when he sang Cyar Buy Class. The song was about people having monetary means to buy anything but lacking in class.
He received encores for his performance, the longest and sustained applause from the audience who sang out the refrain "no class".
Leader of the Revue, Sugar Aloes, Michael Osuna, was bedecked in a gold and bright red suit which was more brilliant than his song, Isaiah 54:17, taking the Biblical path for a second consecutive year, avoiding harsh political commentary.
Alana Sinnette AKA Lady Watchman was also a crowd pleaser with her hard-hitting political commentary No White Colour Crimes, where she mentioned names that sounded like people in the last administration.
Many of the calypsonians received encores, cheers, and applause from the audience. Some of them were Wendell Goodridge with Who to Blame, Dr Witty with Mister Mac, Ninja with Take Yuh Place, Malaika Ballantyne for her song Calypso and Country, Falco with the double entendre Take Some, St Nick with It Eh Right, and Skatie's Turn The Tide.
