96 kilos of weed seized in Cedros
Police have launched a manhunt for two men after seizing over $.7 million in high grade marijuana during a road block in Cap-de-ville, Cedros, on Carnival Monday.
The marijuana, sealed in 170 rectangular packets and stacked in four crocus bags, was seized by police around 11.20 pm. Up to late yesterday, officers had raided several known drug blocks in search of the suspects.
Police said shortly before midnight, Insp Ramphal and a team of officers were on duty at Cap-de-Ville North Trace and Southern Main Road when they stopped a silver Wingroad.
The driver and another occupant jumped out the car as the police approached and fled in some nearby bushes. The car was taken to the Point Fortin Police Station where the crocus bags containing the marijuana were found. The packets weighed 96.5 kilos.
Meanwhile, officers also seized a black plastic bag containing 50 rounds of ammunition during an exercise on Monday.
Police said around 5 pm, PC Sulliman and a party of officers from the St Margaret’s Police Station went to the mangroves near the Trinidad Cement Limited fishing depot, where they found the bag containing the ammunition.
No one was arrested.
