Police property found during raids
A police jacket, bulletproof vest and three guns were among several illegal items seized by Southern Division police over the past few days.
A three-year-old boy and his seven-year-old cousin were also left in the care of their landlord in Princes Town on Thursday evening, after their parents were caught in possession of narcotics and guns.
During the operations coordinated by Snr Supt Mohammed, ASP Ramdeen and Insp Gajadhar, Princes Town CID officers executed a search warrant at an apartment in Lothian Gardens shortly after 5 pm.
The team, which included Sgt Ramlogan, Cpl Nanan, PC Clarence and PC Isaac, found a 27-year-old ex-convict, who has a pending matter for a sexual offence, in the apartment along with his 21-year-old brother and 21-year-old common-law wife, who is a nursing student. The children were also present in the apartment at the time of the raid.
While searching the apartment, Cpl Nanan found a .38 revolver loaded with four rounds of 9 mm ammunition hidden in a sill, while a Browning pistol with three rounds of ammunition and bag containing 93 grammes of high-grade marijuana were found under a bed. The children were handed over to the landlord by request, while the adults were taken to the Princes Town Police Station for questioning. They are expected to appear before a Princes Town Magistrate tomorrow.
In La Romaine on Friday, Southern Division Task Force and CID officers, including Sgt Parasram, Sgt Ramroop, Cpl Bacchus, PC Pulchan, PC Jacob, were conducting a sweep of the drug blocks in La Romaine. The officers went to a house at Stella Street, where they searched a bushy area and found a green bulletproof vest and a blue tactical police jacket.
The officers went to an abandoned lot at George Street and found a 9 mm pistol. A 38-year-old drug dealer was also held with 65 grammes of cocaine and 200 grammes of marijuana at a house along the same street. Eight others were arrested for varying offences.
