Oilfield Workers Trade Union (OWTU) President-General Ancel Roget says the Joint Trade Union Movement (JTUM) is on a rapid mobilisation campaign to raise awareness and consciousness that no worker is safe in T&T.

He was speaking at JTUM's campaign for national resistance against austerity at the Banking, Insurance and General Workers Union's (BIGWU) head office in Barataria, yesterday.

Roget said “We give people a job to ensure that they maintain and increase the standard of living for everybody, but by accepting that job, they're allowing our jobs to slip away.

“We're going to take a particular course of action once our issues are not resolved in the interest of all of us as workers.”

Roget said that 2018 will be an interesting year in the history of the trade union movement and workers in the country.

He said nothing was happening correct these days, they had failed in every area of governance, the economy was at a standstill, there was runaway crime and health care problems.

Roget said the last and only substantial entity in the country which was the human resource capital—workers, they were now attacking the workers. He said everything was under siege in the country and it seemed that one set of people did not know that and those people are the ones responsible for citizens' safety and security.

JTUM will be hosting its next mobilisation meeting in March.
