Acting Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin will be meeting with representatives of the Paria Justice Committee on Thursday morning, to discuss the ongoing investigation into the Paria diving tragedy.
“It has been three years since the Paria Diving Tragedy and the matter is under investigation by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS),” the Committee said in a media release. “This meeting serves to request an update into the investigations being undertaken by the TTPS.”
Members of the Committee will be joined by Dr David Lee, Opposition Shadow on Energy and Member of Parliament for Pointe-a-Pierre; and Mr Rudranath Indarsingh, Opposition Shadow on Labour and Member of Parliament for Couva South.
The Committee will be commemorating the third anniversary of the Paria Diving Tragedy on Saturday 22 February 2025, in the form of a Memorial and a Platform by the Paria Justice Committee.
The Paria Justice Committee consists of the family members of the men who died—Rishi Nagassar, Fyzal Kurban, Yusuf Henry, and Kazim Ali Junior; and the tragedy’s lone survivor Christopher Boodram and his family. It also includes members of the labour fraternity and members of the public seeking to ensure justice for those who lost their lives in the incident.
The Committee says it is working to ensure that no one else loses their life is such a tragic manner.
