An Ad­verse Weath­er Alert (Yel­low Lev­el) has been is­sued for Trinidad and To­ba­go, go­ing in­to ef­fect at 4:00 am on Wednes­day.

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Me­te­o­ro­log­i­cal Ser­vice (TTMS) says the alert will re­main in ef­fect through 6:00 pm Wednes­day. This alert is in ef­fect for To­ba­go and off­shore ar­eas and to a less­er ex­tent Trinidad.

Ac­cord­ing to the TTMS, "While mixed con­di­tions are ex­pect­ed over the next 24 hours, there is a high (70%) po­ten­tial for mod­er­ate to heavy show­ers and iso­lat­ed thun­der­storms ini­tial­ly fa­vor­ing To­ba­go and off­shore ar­eas from ear­ly morn­ing. Ac­tiv­i­ty is ex­pect­ed to spread across Trinidad as the day pro­gress­es. Lo­cal­ized flood­ing and gusty winds in ex­cess of 55 km/hr are like­ly in ar­eas of heavy show­ers or thun­der­storms."

The col­or of the alert in­di­cates the sever­i­ty of the event and the prob­a­bil­i­ty of the event oc­cur­ring. Cur­rent­ly, the alert lev­el is at yel­low. This means that the haz­ard is like­ly, but the sever­i­ty of im­pacts is mod­er­ate for this par­tic­u­lar alert. You should be aware of the haz­ards in your area as­so­ci­at­ed with gusty winds in ex­cess of 55 KM/H, street, and flash flood­ing as well as land­slides.

For a mod­er­ate Ad­verse Weath­er Alert, there is the po­ten­tial for pos­si­ble in­juries, where be­hav­ioral changes are re­quired to en­sure safe­ty. There may be mi­nor prop­er­ty dam­age, with in­come-earn­ing tem­porar­i­ly dis­rupt­ed, and a cou­ple of com­mu­ni­ties are af­fect­ed.

The lat­est, of­fi­cial fore­cast for Trinidad and To­ba­go for tonight from the TTMS calls for ini­tial­ly fair con­di­tions, be­com­ing part­ly cloudy or cloudy to­wards mid­night with show­ers in some ar­eas. There is a 60-70% (medi­um-high) chance of iso­lat­ed thun­der­storm ac­tiv­i­ty in some ar­eas, es­pe­cial­ly To­ba­go.

For to­mor­row, the TTMS is fore­cast­ing " Part­ly cloudy/cloudy with show­ers, at times heavy, in vary­ing ar­eas. There is a 60-70% (medi­um-high) chance of iso­lat­ed thun­der­storms in a few ar­eas. Set­tled evening/night with lin­ger­ing show­ers in a few ar­eas. Gusty winds and street/flash flood­ing can ac­com­pa­ny show­ers/thun­der­storms."

A Haz­ardous Seas Alert (Yel­low Lev­el) is al­so in ef­fect for near shore ar­eas of To­ba­go as well as north­ern and west­ern shel­tered ar­eas of Trinidad from 11:00 PM Tues­day through 2:00 pm Fri­day.
