Opposition Senator Dr Amery Browne says he has reported a series of online death threats made against him and his family to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
In a Facebook post, Dr Browne said the threats appeared as “specific comments” on his Facebook page. In the post, he also shared a screen grab of one comment in which a man threatened deadly harm against him if he sees him in public.
“I have made a full report to the Police Service based on on-line death threats made against me and members of my family in the form of specific comments on my Facebook wall,” he wrote.
Dr Browne said he has been active in politics since 2007 and has “never experienced anything like this”.
He added that he intends to treat the matter with the seriousness it requires: “I am treating the issue very seriously.”
