Aaron Thomas, 40, is the latest cyclist to be killed on the nation’s roads. Reports state that
Thomas, who was part of the Madonna Wheelers Cycling Club, was cycling west in the vicinity of the Cumuto junction when a motorist, also travelling west, broke the traffic lights and struck him, killing him instantly. A DMO has since viewed the body and ordered its removal. Cumuto police are investigating
Thomas’s death comes just 27 days after Jaffa Restaurant owner/chef Joe Brown and BP employee Joanna Banks were killed on November 10, when a motorist claiming to have lost control of his vehicle due to a blown out tyre, mowed a group of cyclist down from the Slip-stream Cycling Club, of which Brown and Banks were a part.
Following the tragic accident, Works and Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan said a policy was coming to address how cyclists are treated on the nation's roads and would propose laws in regard to their protection.
