An armed bandit who tied up and robbed a Williamsville family during a home invasion yesterday was severely beaten by his victims.
The 23-year-old San Fernando man was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he underwent treatment for lacerations to his head.
Police said that around 9.33 am, the suspect forced his way into the house along Corial Road, Williamsville, where a 58-year-old man and his 27-year-old son were sitting with their 57-year-old neighbour. The suspect robbed the neighbour of a wallet containing $10, a gold chain and a cell phone. He robbed the 27-year-old man of a cell phone but got nothing from his father. However, the suspect let down his guard as he attempted to escape and was overpowered by his victims. They took possession of his Glock 23 pistol.
Online photos showed the suspect sitting on the ground, bleeding from a head wound with his hands behind his back, bound by a rope. Another showed both hands and legs stretched out and with a rope, he was tied onto a vehicle and a pole.
A party of police led by PC Alexander responded and arrested the suspect and took custody of his loaded pistol. He was discharged from the hospital and was being interviewed by officers yesterday evening. Police said the suspect had initially given them a false name.
