An Arouca man was killed on Friday night during what officials have described as a drug-related robbery gone bad.
Jevon Paponette, 32, of Waterloo Road, Arouca, died between 8.17 pm and 8.30 pm after he was shot by an unknown assailant.
Reports indicate Paponette was walking along Boundary Road, off Waterloo Road, when he was shot several times about the body.
Officers on patrol discovered Paponette lying on his side, with a knapsack strapped to his back. They allegedly discovered a quantity of marijuana in the bag.
The victim was taken to the Arima Health Facility where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Crime scene officials later recovered five 9 mm spent shells.
Investigations are continuing.
