Police are continuing investigations into the death of a Belmont man who reportedly tripped and fell down the stairway at his home.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death of 61-year-old Ian Leacock of McDowell Trace, Upper St Barbs Hill. Police said there were no signs of foul play.
Leacock was found lying at the bottom of the external staircase to his home at about 12.30 am on December 28.
A female relative told police she was awakened by a loud noise and, on checking outside, found Leacock unconscious on the ground with a wound to his head.
Investigators believe he rolled down 14 steps leading to the second floor of the house.
The woman said Leacock had earlier gone out to drink with friends and was accustomed to returning home intoxicated. She believed he accidentally tripped and fell.
Emergency Health Services personnel detected a faint pulse and performed CPR. Leacock was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival at 12.40 am.
