Prison authorities are probing the sudden death of a prisoner who is said to have fallen ill at the Maximum Security Prison in Golden Grove on Christmas Day and was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
The prisoner was identified as Alfred Cedeno, 40.
Police said Cedeno complained of experiencing chest pains around 6.30 pm on December 25 and was taken to the prison infirmary, where he was treated.
However, after his discomfort increased, prison officers rushed him to the Arima Hospital around 7 pm, where doctors examined him but were unable to find a pulse.
Cedeno was declared dead at 7.15 pm, and a post-mortem has been ordered to ascertain the cause of death.—ALP
