Prison au­thor­i­ties are prob­ing the sud­den death of a pris­on­er who is said to have fall­en ill at the Max­i­mum Se­cu­ri­ty Prison in Gold­en Grove on Christ­mas Day and was rushed to the hos­pi­tal, where he lat­er died.

The pris­on­er was iden­ti­fied as Al­fred Ce­de­no, 40.

Po­lice said Ce­de­no com­plained of ex­pe­ri­enc­ing chest pains around 6.30 pm on De­cem­ber 25 and was tak­en to the prison in­fir­mary, where he was treat­ed.

How­ev­er, af­ter his dis­com­fort in­creased, prison of­fi­cers rushed him to the Ari­ma Hos­pi­tal around 7 pm, where doc­tors ex­am­ined him but were un­able to find a pulse.

Ce­de­no was de­clared dead at 7.15 pm, and a post-mortem has been or­dered to as­cer­tain the cause of death.—ALP
