Bail has been de­nied to a 35-year-old man charged in con­nec­tion with a $6.3 mil­lion mar­i­jua­na seizure in Gas­par­il­lo ear­li­er this year.

Jovon Jack­son ap­peared be­fore High Court Mas­ter Sarah De Sil­va on Wednes­day, charged with pos­ses­sion of 57.42 kilo­grammes of mar­i­jua­na for the pur­pose of traf­fick­ing.

The drugs were al­leged­ly found by po­lice on Feb­ru­ary 21 at an apart­ment at Re­form Res­i­den­tial De­vel­op­ment.

He was not called up­on to plead to the charge.

In a re­lease from the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS), the po­lice es­ti­mat­ed that the street val­ue for the drugs was over TT $6.3 mil­lion.

Rep­re­sent­ing the pros­e­cu­tion, at­tor­ney An­tho­ny Ja­cob ob­ject­ed to bail, cit­ing the na­ture and se­ri­ous­ness of the of­fence.

He al­so raised con­cerns that Jack­son may ab­scond if grant­ed bail. Jack­son was re­mand­ed in­to cus­tody and is ex­pect­ed to reap­pear on June 23.
