Relatives of two men who are missing at sea were called to La Brea where a body was found floating off the Brighton Port on Monday.

However, they left without closure as the body turned out to be someone else.

Sieunarine Gyandass, 51, and Videsh Marlo, 23, both of Freeport, were aboard the flat bottom boat that sank in the Gulf of Paria on March 14. Their bodies are yet to be recovered.

There was some hope yesterday when workers at the port spotted a body floating around 9 am. They contacted the coast guard, who deployed an interceptor vessel and crew. By 11 am, the body was brought to shore. Relatives were allowed to see the body but said that it was neither Sieunarine nor Marlo. Police said it remained unidentified up to late yesterday.

A preliminary enquiry suggests that the male victim was of mixed ethnicity, was in his 30’s and might have drowned as they found no wounds on him to suspect foul play. However, an autopsy is needed to determine his cause of death.

In a separate incident, Guapo police are investigating the discovery of human skeletal remains.

According to a report, officers received information and went to Duckman Road in Parry Lands yesterday. They searched the bushes along the roadside and found a skull, torso and limbs except for the right arm. The bones are expected to be taken to the Forensic Science Centre where an examination will be done to determine whether DNA can be extracted.
