An eight-year-old boy who survived being shot in the chest on Friday night, remains in stable condition at hospital.
Guardian Media received confirmation from the police on Sunday that the youngster is still warded at the Sangre Grande Hospital and is in stable condition.
According to a police report, the victim—8-year-old Kalum St Bernard—was in the company of his mother, 29-year-old Numi St Bernard of Emon Lane, Valencia and other siblings around 10:17 pm on Friday night, when they began hearing several loud explosions.
The mother further reported that her son complained about a burning sensation on his upper left chest. Upon checking, she observed what appeared to be a gunshot wound on her son. Blood was said to be oozing from the wound in his chest.
The child was taken to the Sangre Grande Hospital in a private vehicle where he underwent emergency surgery.
The scene was later visited by the police but nothing of evidential value was obtained.
The police also made checks and interviewed several persons along the road, but no useful information was received.
