An 11-year-old Valencia boy was stabbed after he responded to a noise outside his home early Tuesday. Police suspect the boy was not the intended target but had interrupted an attempted home invasion.
At around 4 am the boy woke up after hearing a soft thumping noise. He went to check when he noticed the front door of his home wide open. As he attempted to close the door and lock it he was confronted by a man dressed in black with a bandana over his nose and mouth. The intruder stabbed the boy in the abdomen then escaped.
The injured boy cried out for help and managed to wake up his sleeping relatives who took him to the Sangre Grande District Hospital. He was then transferred to the Accident and Emergency Department of the Wendy Fitzwilliam Paediatric Hospital at Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mount Hope.
