Caribbean Airlines says it was contacted on October 23 by the Trinidad and Tobago High Commission in Jamaica and the Ministry of Tertiary Education and Skills Training regarding possible flight arrangements for Trinidad and Tobago nationals studying at The University of the West Indies campuses in Jamaica, ahead of Hurricane Melissa.
The airline said in a statement that it shared its scheduled operations for October 23 and 24 with both agencies. On October 23, Caribbean Airlines operated its regular service BW 419 from Kingston to Trinidad via Antigua and Barbados, departing at 2:55 p.m. with 22 available seats.
To secure its assets and ensure the safe return of crew and aircraft to Trinidad, the airline said it operated two additional non-stop flights from Kingston on October 24. Flight BW 405 departed at 10:30 a.m. with 121 available seats, and BW 415 departed at 11:25 a.m. with 38 available seats.
The Norman Manley International Airport closed on October 25 at 9:00 p.m. and is scheduled to reopen at 12:00 p.m. on October 29.
Caribbean Airlines stated that it continues to monitor the situation as Hurricane Melissa progresses. Real-time updates on flights to, from, and via Jamaica are available through the airline’s website and social media channels.
Reservations teams are contacting passengers affected by flight disruptions caused by the hurricane and airport closures. The airline reaffirmed that the safety and well-being of all citizens, customers, employees, and assets remain its priority.
