Michael Carew, the long-time companion of former government minister Marlene Mc Donald has been unable to access bail to leave the Port of Spain State Prison this afternoon, depite the bail being approved earlier today.
Carew was charged with corruption and money laundering.
He was the last of the five to have his bail approved after spending over a week in jail.
Carew remained on remand at the jail after the Clerk of the Peace rejected the first bailor.
His co-accused Wayne Anthony faced a similar situation before he was finally released yesterday on $100,000 bail for money laundering.
Mc Donald, Carew, Anthony, Victor McEachrane and Edgar Zephyrine are facing 49 charges over attempts to defraud the government by allegedly procuring funds through Carew's Calabar Foundation, under the guise it was a charity.
Mc Donald, 61 is facing seven charges: two for conspiracy to defraud, four for misbehavior in public office and one for money laundering. She was granted $2 million bail and only secured her freedom last Friday from the St Clair Medical Centre where she was warded after being charged two Sundays ago.
Carew, 72, was slapped with eight charges- three conspiracy to defraud and five money laundering. He was granted $500,000 bail.
Zephyrine,75, the former chairman of the National Commission of Self Help, was charged with 28 charges: one for conspiracy to defraud and 27 money laundering. He was granted $1 million bail.
McEachrane was charged with three money laundering charges, while Anthony was charged with one money laundering offence.
McEachrane and Anthony were both granted bail of $400,000 and $100,000 respectively.
The five will reappear before Chief Magistrate Maria Busby-Earle-Caddle on September 9.
