A 33-year-old Ch­agua­nas man was re­mand­ed in cus­tody when he ap­peared be­fore Mag­is­trate Adri­an Dar­manie charged with two counts of sex­u­al pen­e­tra­tion of a child, cre­at­ing child pornog­ra­phy and pos­ses­sion of child pornog­ra­phy.

The ac­cused was due to reap­pear yes­ter­day in the Ch­agua­nas Mag­is­trates Court.

While con­duct­ing on­go­ing en­quiries on March 3, of­fi­cers from the Ch­agua­nas Po­lice Sta­tion ar­rest­ed a sus­pect for pos­ses­sion of child pornog­ra­phy.

Sub­se­quent­ly, of­fi­cers of the Child Pro­tec­tion Unit, Cen­tral Di­vi­sion, launched an in­ves­ti­ga­tion which re­vealed that a four-year-old girl was vis­it­ing rel­a­tives when a male rel­a­tive al­leged­ly forced the mi­nor to per­form a sex act which he record­ed on his cell­phone.

PC Nyaik of the Ch­agua­nas Child Pro­tec­tion Unit charged the sus­pect on March 8.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions were su­per­vised by Su­per­in­ten­dent Claire GuyAl­leyne, ASP Seecha­ran, In­spec­tor Ram­phal and Sergeant Ban­warie.
