Chaguanas Mayor Gopaul Boodhan called on corporate entities to partner with service clubs to bring greater relief to persons with disabilities.
He was speaking with Guardian Media on Saturday when the Rotary Club of Chaguanas distributed wheelchairs at the Chaguanas Borough Corporation’s Administrative Complex.
Boodhan said there are over 57 children living with disabilities in Chaguanas who are always in need of love, care and assistance.
“It is high time that we place greater emphasis and more attention to those persons facing challenges in their daily life. More corporate bodies should come on board. When you get the support of these organisations it can bring back some level of happiness and reassurance that someone out there deeply cares,” he said.
Boodhan said donations to the disabled should not be done out of tokenism but from the heart.
Michael Ibrahim, one of the directors of the Rotary Club of Chaguanas said the club partnered with the Digicel Foundation which contributed US$5,000 towards the wheelchairs. Ibrahim said the club imported 120 wheelchairs at a cost $90,000 and they were given to people from all across T&T.
