Cocorite man charged with murder

22-year-old Eli­jawa Lo­gan has been charged with the mur­der of David Figueira and will ap­pear be­fore a Port-of-Spain Mag­is­trate to­day. He al­so faces charges of pos­ses­sion of firearm, pos­ses­sion of am­mu­ni­tion and at­tempt­ed shoot­ing with in­tent. 

Two oth­er per­sons, Stef­fon Bel­grave and Jor­dan Bel­grave will face charges of as­sault oc­ca­sion­ing ac­tu­al bod­i­ly harm. De­tails fol­low in this press re­lease from the TTPS: 

A Co­corite man is ex­pect­ed to ap­pear be­fore a Port-of-Spain Mag­is­trate to­day, charged with the mur­der of David Figueira, which oc­curred on Tues­day 9th No­vem­ber, 2021. 

ELI­JAWA LO­GAN, aka ‘Miz’ and ‘Mys­tery’, 22, of Hard­ing Place, al­so faces charges of pos­ses­sion of firearm, pos­ses­sion of am­mu­ni­tion and at­tempt­ed shoot­ing with in­tent. 

Two oth­er per­sons, STEF­FON BEL­GRAVE, aka ‘Phil’ and ‘Stef­fon Williams’, 23, of Sage Street, Co­corite and JOR­DAN BEL­GRAVE, aka ‘Jor­dan Williams’, of the same ad­dress, face charges of as­sault oc­ca­sion­ing ac­tu­al bod­i­ly harm. 

Figueira, 32, of Hill­side Av­enue, Cas­cade, was with a group of per­sons in the Co­corite area around 12:35 pm, on Tues­day 9th No­vem­ber, 2021, when they were al­leged­ly at­tacked by two men. The Cas­cade man then at­tempt­ed to pur­sue one of his at­tack­ers, but was ap­proached by a third man who was armed with a gun. The vic­tim was shot mul­ti­ple times and died at the scene. The gun­man then al­leged­ly at­tempt­ed to shoot an­oth­er man, but this proved fu­tile. The as­sailants then es­caped. 

In­ves­ti­ga­tions were launched in­to the in­ci­dent and the trio was ar­rest­ed by of­fi­cers of the West­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force, on Fri­day 12th No­vem­ber, 2021. 

Charges were laid by PC Mc In­tosh, on Wednes­day 17th No­vem­ber, 2021, fol­low­ing ad­vice re­ceived from Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions, Roger Gas­pard SC, on that same date. 

In­ves­ti­ga­tions were su­per­vised by In­sp. Jones of the Homi­cide Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tions, Re­gion One, In­sp. Grant of the West­ern Di­vi­sion and in­clud­ed of­fi­cers of the West­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force and West­ern Di­vi­sion Crime Scene Unit.
