Commissioner of Police, Allister Guevarro is assuring the public that the crime syndicate whose activities prompted the declaration of the current State of Emergency, is being dismantled, piece-by-piece.
“When I called for the State of Emergency, I warned that these criminal syndicates were using kidnappings and other crimes to fuel terror,” the top cop said in a media statement.
“With their leadership removed from their comfort zone and effectively cut off from directing their members, our operations continue with precision and resolve. We are not only dismantling their network,” he said, “but we are also disrupting their entire business model.”
He added: “Jail is jail, and while we defend citizens, we will not entertain attempts to return those persons removed from the MSP to a place where they were able to order assassinations, robberies, kidnappings, extortion and home invasions.”
The Commissioner’s comments come following the successful rescue of kidnap victim, Jankie Satie Karim, from a house at Toco Main Road in Rampanalgas, around 6:30 pm yesterday (July 21, 2025), in an operation led by the Multi-Option Police Section (MOPS), Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU), and Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
Jankie Satie Karim was abducted on July 13.
“The victim was safely rescued without injury, immediately attended to for medical evaluation, and is now reunited with her family,” an official TTPS statement reports.
According to the TTPS, during the confrontation: one male suspect, a hostage taker, was fatally wounded; and a female suspect, identified as securing the hostage, was detained and is now in police custody.
The Police Service also has confirmed that no injuries were sustained by police officers or members of the public during the rescue operation for Jankie Satie Karim.
Even as he urged criminals to put down their weapons, the top cop issued a warning:
“Let this be clear, hostile action against my officers will be met with lawful force.”
CoP Guevarro said the TTPS will continue its efforts to dismantle “organised criminal networks that have resorted to kidnappings as a revenue stream for acquiring weapons and threatening national security.”
