A man­hunt was un­der­way yes­ter­day for a Bar­rack­pore man ac­cused of kid­nap­ping his ex-girl­friend at knife­point in San Juan on Sat­ur­day and rap­ing her twice be­fore re­turn­ing her to the area.

The 32-year-old su­per­mar­ket clerk was al­leged­ly ab­duct­ed around 9.49 am while walk­ing along a road in El So­cor­ro.

A care­tak­er in the area re­port­ed­ly wit­nessed the 41-year-old sus­pect, of Lengua Vil­lage, Bar­rack­pore, force the woman in­to a sil­ver-grey Mit­subishi Lancer be­fore speed­ing away.

Po­lice were im­me­di­ate­ly alert­ed and con­duct­ed search­es in the area but were un­able to lo­cate the ve­hi­cle or its oc­cu­pants.

Around 3 pm on Sat­ur­day, of­fi­cers re­ceived in­for­ma­tion that the woman had been re­turned by her al­leged ab­duc­tor. Per­son­nel from the Barataria CID, Barataria Charge Room and the North East­ern Di­vi­sion Gang and In­tel­li­gence Unit lat­er met with the vic­tim at the Barataria su­per­mar­ket where she works.

The woman told in­ves­ti­ga­tors that at about 9.40 am she had been walk­ing west along the road with her son when she spot­ted her ex-boyfriend’s ve­hi­cle trav­el­ling along Bound­ary Road.

Ac­cord­ing to her re­port, the dri­ver ig­nored a No En­try sign at the in­ter­sec­tion of Eve­lyn Trace and Bound­ary Road and drove to­wards them. Fear­ing for their safe­ty, the woman and her son ran in­to a near­by yard and asked the home­own­er to con­tact po­lice.

The sus­pect al­leged­ly stopped the ve­hi­cle, got out armed with a knife and or­dered the woman in­to the car.

Fear­ing for her son’s safe­ty, she com­plied and left the child be­hind.

The vic­tim told po­lice the man drove her to a dirt road off the high­way near Gol­con­da, where he al­leged­ly raped her.

She said he then forced her back in­to the ve­hi­cle and took her to his home, where she was al­leged­ly raped a sec­ond time.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors were told that af­ter the or­deal, the sus­pect drove the woman back to the El So­cor­ro area and dropped her off near Hon­ey Bee Su­per­mar­ket.

The vic­tim lat­er re­ceived med­ical treat­ment at the El So­cor­ro Health Cen­tre, where scratch­es and bruis­es were re­port­ed­ly ob­served on her fore­arms. Po­lice sub­se­quent­ly ob­tained a med­ical ex­am­i­na­tion on her be­half.

She al­so ac­com­pa­nied of­fi­cers to sev­er­al lo­ca­tions con­nect­ed to the in­ves­ti­ga­tion, where pho­tographs were tak­en.
