One man is dead and two oth­ers are in cus­tody fol­low­ing a shoot- out with the po­lice af­ter they robbed a Table­land fam­i­ly on Sat­ur­day night.

The iden­ti­ty of the dead man was not re­leased by po­lice up to late yes­ter­day.

Po­lice are search­ing for two oth­er sus­pects who es­caped. A re­port said on Sat­ur­day night five, men armed with guns, broke in­to the home of a Table­land fam­i­ly and robbed them of jew­el­ry and oth­er items.

The ban­dits en­coun­tered the po­lice as they made their es­cape and they fired at the po­lice.

The po­lice re­turned fire and fa­tal­ly shot one of the men.

Two oth­ers were ar­rest­ed by the po­lice while the oth­er two es­caped. The of­fi­cers re­cov­ered the stolen jew­el­ry and oth­er items. A firearm was al­so re­cov­ered. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
