A 23-year-old man was shot dead following an altercation with police officers early Monday at a bar in La Brea, in what may be the 37th police-involved shooting for 2018.
The victim has been identified as Kyle Thompson.
Investigators said around 3.30 two officers attached to the La Brea Police Station responded to a report of a man brandishing a firearm at the Dream Girls Bar. However, when the officers arrived on the scene they were confronted by a group of people who allegedly threw objects at them.
During the alleged attack, one of the officers drew his firearm and fired. Thompson, of Dubarry Trace, Fyzabad, was shot in the chest. He was subsequently taken to the Point Fortin hospital where he was pronounced dead.
ASP Ramphal is continuing investigations.
