Members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) moved swiftly to rescue a four-year-old boy after a vehicle theft escalated into an abduction on Saturday afternoon.
According to police reports, around 3 pm a 51-year-old man reported that his white Nissan Navara had been stolen along Guaico Tamana Road in Sangre Grande with his son inside.
Police said the suspect, known to the victim, drove off with the child, prompting an immediate response. The vehicle was located shortly after at a nearby location, with the child found unharmed inside. A 40-year-old suspect was arrested by officers of the Sangre Grande Police Station, while the child was medically examined and found to be in good health.
The exercise was one of several TTPS exercises across the country during continuing activity under the ongoing State of Emergency.
In Central Trinidad, officers conducted a road traffic exercise between 9 am and 1 pm in Chaguanas, targeting Montrose Junction, Busy Corner and the Southern Main Road.
Seventeen fixed penalty notices were issued for various offences, including breaches of traffic signs, using vehicles contrary to registration, illegal parking within nine metres of a corner, use of mobile phones while driving and failure to wear seatbelts.
The operation was led by Senior Superintendent Bhagwandeen, ASP Hosein and Inspector Bagoo and coordinated by Sergeant Small.
In a separate early morning exercise, officers carried out a coordinated SoE operation in Manzanilla between 4 am and 8 am. Three people were arrested for possession of ammunition, with one round of 5.56 ammunition and four 12-gauge cartridges seized. Additional arrests were made pending further enquiries.
That operation was led by Senior Supt Paponette and Supt Beharry, with support from the Eastern Division Task Force, Eastern Division Gang Intelligence Unit and the K9 Unit.
