Po­lice in the Port-of-Spain Di­vi­sion are search­ing for a sus­pect who re­port­ed­ly shot at of­fi­cers on Sat­ur­day night.

Of­fi­cers were on foot pa­trol near Rose Hill, Laven­tille around 7.30 pm, when they spot­ted a man of African de­scent walk­ing along a track in the area.

Ob­serv­ing the sus­pect hold­ing a ri­fle slung around his neck, of­fi­cers called out and iden­ti­fied them­selves.

How­ev­er, in­stead of com­ply­ing with the or­der, the sus­pect al­leged­ly point­ed the gun at the of­fi­cers – prompt­ing them to re­turn fire.

The sus­pect was not hit, how­ev­er, and man­aged to elude cap­ture, but not be­fore he dropped a mag­a­zine con­tain­ing 24 rounds of 5.56 mm am­mu­ni­tion.
