Campers for the Easter weekend are being asked to exercise extreme caution during their respective expeditions as armed bandits are said to be preying on them at several locations.
In one incident in Chaguaramas on Thursday night, a family was robbed of their vehicle.
According to a police report, a man was asleep in the family’s Nissan AD Wagon, with the door open, along the beachfront, when he felt something hit him very hard on the head.
When he woke up, police said he saw three men standing outside the car, one of them armed with a cutlass. Two of the men grabbed him and threw him on the ground. They then ushered him to a makeshift tent where other members of his family were asleep.
Police said the men robbed the family of several items, including the keys to their car, which they escaped with.
In an unrelated robbery incident, this time in Arima, at about 4.30 am on Good Friday two men entered a guest house and announced a holdup. They robbed the receptionist of over $8,000 in cash, a gold chain and several cell phones. The receptionist and another worker were then tied up with bed sheets. The bandits then escaped.
Police said the workers managed to free themselves and subsequently contacted the police.
