Police are trying to determine whether the charred remains of a body found in a burnt-out vehicle in Sangre Grande, could be those of 30-year-old Shashi Samad, of Rampersad Trace, Vega de Oropouche, who was last seen on Friday 10 June 2022.
Shashi Samad was reported missing to the Sangre Grande Police Station on Saturday 11th June 2022, and a Missing Persons Alert had been activated for him, with the Police Service asking for any information as to his whereabouts to be reported to the Sangre Grande Police Station.
In addition, the Hunters Search and Rescue Team had embarked on a mission to assist the family in finding the missing man.
“Hunters Search and Rescue Team led by Captain Vallence Rambharat was at the home of missing person Shashi Samad, of Rampersad Trace, Vega De Oropouche, Sangre Grande on Sunday evening, to assist the family in locating him,” the group stated in a release.
“While at the home, word came that a burnt vehicle with a burnt body inside was found at La Sieva Road, Foster Road, Sangre Grande. This is approximately 5 kilometres from the family home,” the group said.
It added: “Our team visited and found that the body was burnt beyond recognition. Later the chassis number was matched to Shashi Samad’s moss-green Almera car. The vehicle was removed by the TTPS.”
Investigations are ongoing.
