An acting corporal who was allegedly shot by a female relative with his own gun during an altercation at their Barataria home on Wednesday night, is in critical condition at hospital.
Investigators who visited the officer around 8 am yesterday at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC), Mt Hope, reported he was warded at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The 44-year-old of 11th Street, Barataria was shot in the right upper chest on September 22, as he argued with the 40-year-old woman.
It is alleged the officer stabbed the woman once in the arm during the argument following which she managed to get hold of his service revolver and used it to fire a single shot at the officer.
The officer underwent emergency surgery following the incident for internal bleeding, and damage to his lungs and liver from the bullet fragments.
The woman who is a Human Resource Consultant was treated for her wound and has been detained at the Morvant Police Station since Wednesday.
