Officers from the Anti-Corruption Investigations Bureau (ACIB) have detained Glen Ram, chairman of the Mayaro/Rio Claro Regional Corporation, for questioning.
A police source from the Eastern Division confirmed to Guardian Media that charges are expected to be laid for corruptly soliciting and receiving funds.
A source, who asked not to be named, said police officers visited the corporation's offices at Ranns Plaza on High Street, Rio Claro, around 10 am and escorted Ram out of the building.
Contacted for comment, the UNC's Public Relations Officer, Anita Haynes, said she was still trying to clarify the circumstances surrounding his Ram's detention.
