The Victim and Witness Support Unit (VWSU) of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has begun counselling sessions for the families of victims of recent tragedies.
A media release from the T&T Poice Service has said that the Unit remains resolute in delivering the investigative and psychosocial support essential in the aftermath of these events.
The VWSU also condemned the recent killing of the three teens on January 16, 2020. The Unit commenced counselling and debriefing with relatives hours after the incident.
The three dead teens were identified, as Demetri Archibald, 19, Jordan Archibald, 14, and Nyron Samuel,24, of Muller Street, Demerara Road, Wallerfield.
A fourth person has been hospitalised. Relatives were provided with emotional support to cope with the trauma of the incident along with guidelines towards functioning in the difficult period ahead.
The media release stated with reference to the killing of Pre-School Principal, Jezelle Phillip, on January 6, 2020, the VWSU conducted a counselling session on Friday , with a cross section of students and their parents.
The media release said that the unit has already initiated counselling sessions with the relatives of Dr Rudradeva Sharma, who died in a car crash after he was kidnapped on January 15, 2020.
Counselling sessions have also been arranged for the surviving doctor of that crash, Dr Prem Naidoo.
The statement concluded by saying that the VWSU of the TTPS continues to engage victims and their families in their time of grief, demonstrating support while building relationships with the public.
