A Couva man was arrested on Boxing Day after cursing and assaulting an officer who came to his home to investigate a reported disturbance by his wife.
Police said the 25-year-old of John Baptiste Road in Balmain was taken to the Couva Police Station, where he remained up to yesterday.
Officers arrived at the suspect’s house around 3.20 am on December 26, after receiving information that there had been a wounding at the premises.
Upon arrival, officers saw two men seated in the gallery, and following enquiries, both men denied any disturbance.
The suspect reportedly said, “No officer, no one make a report.”
Shortly thereafter, a woman approached the officers and said, “Yes, officer, it’s me who called the police.”
Police said the suspect began behaving aggressively towards the officers, following which he allegedly began cursing.
Cautioned about his conduct, the suspect walked out of the gallery and stood on the road, where he reportedly began shouting at the officers and threatening to kill them.
The man was again cautioned by officers who moved to arrest him. Police claimed he violently pushed an officer, causing him to stumble backwards.
A struggle ensued between the officer and the suspect, which prompted a female officer to intervene in order to make the arrest. Police said the suspect continued to threaten the officers. Officers of the Crime Patrol arrived a short time later and assisted by taking the suspect to the Couva Police Station.
The officer who was assaulted sought medical attention at the Couva Health Facility.
