President of the Seamen and Waterfront Workers Trade Union (SWWTU) and General Secretary of National Trade Union Centre (NATUC), Michael Annisette has congratulated the captain and crew of the T&T Spirit for rescuing four stranded fishermen at sea during the vessel's regular journey to Scarborough.
In a news release, Annisette said: “The SWWTU and NATUC wishes to commend and congratulate the captain and crew for demonstrating selfless concern for their fellowmen as well as displaying a high level of professionalism. They clearly demonstrated that Trinidad and Tobago seamen have the skills and competence to perform under conditions that require quick thinking and swift action. More importantly, they confirmed that Trinidad and Tobago seamen are well appointed to perform their duties in keeping with best international practices as it pertains to maritime law.”
On Tuesday evening, the crew on board the T&T Spirit was forced into extra duty after its captain Gennandy Katunin received a distress call coming from a small pirogue just off Maracas Bay as the ferry was making its way to Tobago.
The crew responded and rescued the fishermen.
