Police are investigating an armed robbery at a fast food outlet in Freeport on Saturday night.
Reports stated that around 11.15 pm on Friday, a 30-year-old cashier at KFC in St Mary’s Village was conducting sales. Three other people, a 33-year-old security officer, a 34-year-old welder and a 44-year-old engineer, were in the restaurant when two men armed with firearms stormed into the business and announced a hold-up.
The suspects robbed the victims of their phones and almost $2,000 in cash and also grabbed $327 from the cash register.
They escaped in a white Nissan AD wagon.
Man shot in Couva
A 19-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting in his neighbourhood in Couva yesterday morning.
Police said around 12.30 am, he was standing in front a parlour in Perseverance Village when a white Nissan AD Wagon with four men pulled up alongside him.
One of the men who was seated in back, right side of the vehicle pointed a gun at him and fired, hitting him on his right hand.
The victim ran and sought assistance from a passerby, who took him to the Couva Health Facility. He was subsequently transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital.
Man who intervened
in altercation shot
A construction worker who intervened in an altercation to help his friend was shot in Erin on Saturday.
The 30-year-old victim, of Los Iros, was liming at Lisa’s Bar, located at Los Iros Junction, when he saw his friend and another man in an altercation on the SS Erin Road near Starlight Bar. He intervened in the altercation and shortly after, the other man pulled out a firearm and shot him on his right foot, after which the suspect ran off.
The victim was taken to the Siparia District Health Facility, where he was treated and transferred to the Point Fortin Hospital for further treatment. A nurse at the health centre contacted the police.
Erin police are investigating.
Mini mart owners robbed during home invasion
A Marabella woman and her 25-year-old male relative were confronted by armed men in their home, tied up and robbed during a home invasion on Friday.
Initial reports sated that around 11.30 am, the male victim and his 60-year-old relative were in their minimart, which is operated at their home, when a suspect armed with a knife entered and took the male victim’s $6,000 iPhone.
The suspect was joined by two other as they ordered the victims into the house and tied their hands and feet with duct tape as they ransacked the house. They escaped with jewellery, another phone, an Amazon Fire tablet, a bottle of Johnnie Walker and a cartoon of cigarettes, valued over $64,150.
Marabella police are investigating.
