The National Crime Prevention Programme (NCPP) will be rolled out to the rest of the country shortly. The programme, launched just over a year ago, is a whole of government approach to treating with the mounting incidence of crime. For the past year, it has been operating in three areas—Diego Martin, Chagaunas and Tobago.
Speaking on CNC3's T Morning Brew, NCPP retired major general Rodney Smart said the programme involves several o governmental agencies combating crime by interacting with communities.
"We speaking about, for example, the Ministry of Community Development, the Ministry of Rural and Local Government. We speaking about the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services," he said.
Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Glenda Jennings-Smith said communities play an important role in the fight against crime and need to band together and stand up against the criminal elements.
