Relatives searching for a missing man stumbled upon his decomposing body in a field yesterday. Mandath Ramdath, 52, an Unemployment Relief Programme worker went missing last Friday from his Charles Street, Manahambre, home.
When Ramdath, a father of three, did not return home, his family reported him missing. The report was made at Ste Madeleine Police Station.
Ramdath's son, Rudranath, had to be consoled when the body was found. Police said yesterday that the state of decomposition indicated that Ramdath might have died the same day he went missing. The body bore no marks of violence. Police said, however, that they were not ruling out foul play. Ramdath's mother Ramdaye was overcome with grief yesterday. "My son does work hard and come home. Oh God! Why they do this to my son he is a good boy... why they kill him?" she cried.
Grieving relatives yesterday described Ramnath as a "quiet man." A relative said Ramdath was recently separated from his wife and was keeping to himself. He said: "He never used to bother with anybody. From work he used to come straight home. He never had any enemies and did not look for trouble. I do not know why anyone would want to kill him." Investigations are continuing.
