?Police have arrested 81 people suuspected of various offences during an exercise on Wednesday in Arima, Maloney and Arouca. A total of 70 suspects were held on outstanding warrants in Arima while seven others were held on drug-trafficking charges in Arouca. Four were nabbed in Maloney for robberies and possession of stolen items. The exercise was carried out by officers of the Northern Division CID and Task Force.
Head of the Northern Division, Senior Supt Joseph Edwards, said it was part of the effort by police to bring criminal activities to a manageable level throughout the Northern Division. He said the division would get additional manpower soon. He said the police would concentrate on the Curepe and St Augustine districts. Edwards said: "There has been a very serious intervention by police throughout the district. "We are working around the clock to ensure law and order is preserved at all times, and that business people and citizens are safe from criminal elements."
