Ten-year-old Reneca Ghent, the Diego Martin schoolgirl, who was abducted near her home by a man posing as a PH taxi driver, has received counselling at her school.
Ghent's aunt Erica St Louis said she met a psychologist from the Ministry of Education's Student Support Unit yesterday. During a telephone interview, St Louis said Ghent was progressing after her ordeal on Saturday. "She is coming along well and is expected to meet with the psychologist again to do a follow-up," St Louis said. She was confident the suspect would be caught by police. Meanwhile, Western Division detectives were expected to obtain video footage from camera installed at the Family Court at Nipdec Building, Tragarete Road, Port-of-Spain, where Ghent and her grandmother, Lorna Penco, boarded the man's vehicle and asked to be taken to Gopaul Avenue, Diego Martin.
Ghent, of Vespree Lane, was released some three hours later after she was taken for a "joy-ride" by the man who threatened to throw her off a cliff at Fort George if she did not co-operate. Police said based on the description given by the child and Penco a sketch would be developed in an attempt to identify the suspect. Police believe the man may not be from the Diego Martin community. The suspect drove off with Ghent in the back seat of the vehicle, moments after Penco came out of the front passenger seat. Investigations are continuing.
