A 50-year-old woman who believed she was going out on a first date was robbed at a guest house in Port-of-Spain.
A 34-year-old suspect, of La Horquetta, was held by officers of the Guard and Emergency Branch while liming in St James on Tuesday. He is expected to appear in a Port-of-Spain Magistrates' Court today, charged with robbery. Detectives said the woman met the man while she had been sitting on the Brian Lara Promenade in Port-of-Spain.
The victim and the suspect exchanged conversation and arranged to have a date. They went to a motel at Park Street and went upstairs. The suspect then assaulted her and robbed of cash and jewelry. She was robbed of valuables estimated at $3,500.
She escaped and immediately made a report to the police. Police said women should be vigilant "and look out for those kind of men who take advantage of distressed women." They claimed the suspect had done it on previous occasions. Cpl Hepburn of the Central Police Station laid the charges.
