The in­ves­ti­ga­tion in­to the pur­port­ed $5 mil­lion "hit" placed on the life of UNC's po­lit­i­cal leader Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar is ex­pect­ed to be com­plet­ed over the week­end. Deputy Po­lice Com­mis­sion­er Gilbert Reyes gave the as­sur­ance yes­ter­day, say­ing the po­lice had al­ready made sev­er­al in­roads in­to the probe. Ac­cord­ing to Reyes, in­ves­ti­ga­tors were in the process of trac­ing the ori­gin of the al­leged call which was made by an anony­mous per­son on Wednes­day. "We have al­ready done a lot of ground­work and we are in the process of trac­ing the call which we have al­ready made progress with," Reyes said.

He said im­me­di­ate­ly up­on re­ceiv­ing in­for­ma­tion re­gard­ing the "hit," a team of of­fi­cers was de­tailed and had been work­ing to de­ter­mine the source. At a pub­lic PNM meet­ing held at Cen­tre City Mall in Ch­agua­nas on Thurs­day night, Prime Min­is­ter Patrick Man­ning said he was in­formed by the se­cu­ri­ty forces that the re­port­ed "hit" was an "en­tire hoax." "I am now in a po­si­tion to re­port that they have re­port­ed to me that the en­tire mat­ter was a hoax," Man­ning said. Asked where Man­ning got his in­for­ma­tion, Reyes said: "I don't know, but it was not me." "We are treat­ing the mat­ter like oth­er re­port made to the po­lice," he said. "We are tak­ing it se­ri­ous­ly un­til the en­tire mat­ter is thor­ough­ly in­ves­ti­gat­ed." He al­so as­sured that po­lice se­cu­ri­ty had been beefed up for all po­lit­i­cal meet­ings.
