Act­ing Po­lice Com­mis­sion­er James Philbert has said the T&T Po­lice Ser­vice was on a dri­ve to ex­ceed its cus­tomer re­la­tions ser­vices as it re­lat­ed to the con­duct of their du­ties. Philbert was speak­ing yes­ter­day dur­ing the in­au­gu­ra­tion cer­e­mo­ny of the new­ly-elect­ed mem­bers of the Po­lice Ser­vice So­cial and Wel­fare As­so­ci­a­tion.

The func­tion was held at Po­lice Ad­min­is­tra­tion build­ing in Port-of Spain. Sgt Anand Rame­sar of Cen­tral Di­vi­sion and his slate of can­di­dates were suc­cess­ful in de­feat­ing Cpl Em­rol Bruce and his team to gain lead­er­ship of the as­so­ci­a­tion.

Say­ing that chal­lenges would pe­ri­od­i­cal­ly arise, Philbert said the de­mands of the work­force would al­so bring a num­ber of is­sues to light which must be han­dled pru­dent­ly."But dur­ing those chal­lenges, we must re­mem­ber we are all po­lice of­fi­cers who have tak­en an oath to serve and pro­tect," Philbert urged. He al­so gave the as­sur­ance that the ad­min­is­tra­tion of the Po­lice Ser­vice was com­mit­ted to work­ing with the as­so­ci­a­tion, say­ing it was "crit­i­cal" for all par­ties in­volved to co-op­er­ate for the greater good of the or­gan­i­sa­tion. Short­ly af­ter be­ing con­grat­u­lat­ed, Rame­sar iden­ti­fied sev­er­al con­cerns af­fect­ing of­fi­cers in­clud­ing prop­er over­time com­pen­sa­tion and hous­ing.
